One Act of Kindness  2.14.02

It was one act of kindness
from a man i hardly know
that made me realize
i’ve been mistreated.

It was a simple act of kindness
a gesture of admiration
that put into focus
the ridiculousness
of our situation.

It was a dozen red roses
from someone else
who was shaking in his shoes
which brought to light
the adoration
that i have missed with you.

It was a Valentine’s acknowledgment
by someone other than you
that helped me grasp the truth
about things you didn’t do.

It was the appreciation
of someone else
who was good enough to care
that made me see the many times
that you were never there.

it was that one act
a simple act of kindness
that dropped the veil of you.
