My Dragons
 for Dee
(6-30-1995)

She set about a quest to slay her dragons
filled with fear and yearning.
She prayed their demise would make her whole,
unlimited and free.
Mid-venture found her in the realm
of a woman, wise and knowing
who bade warning of the dragon’s true nature.
Distracted still, she pressed onward
for what seemed an eternity’s day.
She then reached the point where shore meets sea,
and Earth gives way to Sky.
Within the mire, there, she entered the lair
with cautiousness and dare.
Her senses quickened as she found her-self staring
deep in the eyes of oppression.
Hideous, the sight made her shiver,
leaving her cold and hollow.
A voice came soon from above-
“If my mirror should not please you, it can be destroyed.”
She sharply turned to see a towering beast
watching her in wonder.
She fell to her knees in revelation
as the words of the wise one rang true.
“Please,” she begged “I must return home,
but i haven’t the strength to move.”
The creature then cradled her up
in its strong and stable embrace.
With a wink and a smile the dragon replied,
“Relax now child, you are with me.
What else are these wings for?”
